This delightful single-farm coffee is referred to as "tutty fruity" by the matriarch of the farm's owners, Dońa Isabel. Here's why...
Don Roger has a degree in agronomy and he loves sharing technical knowledge and tips with visiting roasters. Their farm has a clean water source that supplies the community below with drinking water. Further, the farm has a special system of PVC tubing with tiny perforations underneath the groves of trees so that runoff from washing coffee is filtered by the earth instead of polluting streams. They use special pruning techniques, training their Bourbon next to their plot of Caturra.
GMCG is a social enterprise that, in addition to its own farm (Finca Idealista, home of Sweet Honey Ross), works directly with coffee producers in Nicaragua, including Roger & Isabel, to connect them directly with roasters like us. GMCG is on the ground, all the time, teaming up with producers willing to take the steps necessary to produce high-cupping Specialty Coffee. They stand (literally) on every partner farm during picking season to ensure ripeness with specialized equipment. GMCG also carries out sustainable development projects in communities, such as free computing classes for girls from coffee communities, medical assistance, microcredit, running water in schools, and educational supplies.
2020 marks our 6th harvest year purchase from Gold Mountain, and we've visited their lovely area twice since our founding. We are more than proud and thrilled to bring this incredibly unique "direct relationship" coffee to our customers and coffee lovers.
