After a few years of a rousing good time with our whiskey barrel-aged Ethiopian coffee, The Stumbling Monkey, we decided to mix it up a bit. So there's a new monkey in town, folks: The Howling Monkey! New spirit (tequila), new coffee (Nicaraguan).

For this first go-'round, we secured a mysteriously unnamed tequila barrel from our pals at Gezellig Brewing Co. in nearby Newton, Iowa. After holding onto the barrel for a few months and not having a beer to use with it, we swiped it up and threw an entire sack of our Nicaragua Divine Inspiration source green coffee, a washed community lot from the Jinotega region.

The slightly older, dryer barrel means that not quite as much boozy moisture was available for the beans to absorb, so the again effects are subtle. So at least for this iteration, The Howling Monkey is a coffee you can introduce to your boss at morning coffee and not draw any funny looks.
